Definitely not the kind of food you’d want to eat every day but if you’re looking to scratch that southern food itch, look no further.The burgers are really the highlight here - fully customizable so you can design your dream burger. Highly recommend! The restaurant itself is decorated to the nines with quirky southern regalia strewn across the walls. It’s a no frills approach that you’d expect from a respectable southern establishment and one I think adds to the entire experience. Fried pickles & okra were good. The meat platter was more food than one single person could comfortably handle (hellooooo meat sweats). The burger was incredible! (And yes - those are mozzarella sticks on the burger. Don’t judge me.)

Brisket sandwich was heavenly. I've been trying various BBQ places on my road trip from Colorado to NC... Ray's was the best hands down

Awesome place to eat. Heard about it and had to try and wasn't disappointed. Hamburger and ribs r amazing. Haven't tried anything else yet. Been there 2 times in very short time and ready to go back.

One of the greatest little hole in the wall restaurants I've ever been to...great staff, and awesome food! Definitely a must try if you are in the area. Best brisket, bbq and burgers! Ray knows smoke!

The lady that took our to go order and checked us out was very courteous and made the process quick and easy. We tried the meat sampler and blueberry cobbler and have no complaints. Great food and reasonable prices!

the food has always been very very good but the music is very very very loud you can't talk at your table to the person next to you we ask him three times to cut the music down and they ignore it therefore I love the food I think it's great but a man have to go somewhere else because I can't hear when somebody talks to me

It was pretty good...I had hamburger steak and enjoyed it.....baked potato was good I don't care for the little package of sour cream but butter was good....my onion rings were greasy...staff was very nice....I would try it again

Just amazing! Smoked wings and the BBQ Meat Sampler are terrific. Carolina style cheeseburger is great based on commentary received from family and their potatoe salad may be the best period. You try it and see.. You won't be disappointed.

Casual, fast, friendly service and tasty food for reasonable prices! We tried the meat sampler platter for $19.99 (brisket, ribs, pulled pork, quarter chicken, wings and 2 sides). It was all really good, but the ribs were especially good, with meat so tender, it fell off the bone! Interestingly, the pulled pork comes in larger pieces than the shredded pork you normally see in other pork BBQ. It's good with the vinegar BBQ sauce provided.There are 3 types of slaw: Cole slaw (mayonnaise), BBQ (mustard and ketchup), and vinegar.

First time we ever ate there and the food was awesome! They guys got the Combo Plates and loved the barbecue ribs and pork. I had the smoked wings and the flavor was so good. Possibly the best wings I've had. It may be a small "hole in the wall" place but its highly recommended!

First time here and had a large Carolina burger without the bun and large fresh cut fries. It was delicious! The menu says that they make their ground chuck daily and that fresh flavor was definitely there along with the tenderness.

The best BBQ . Molly the waitress is wonderful. We are from Florida on our way to Maryland. Found this place last year on Google.

My husband And I have been several times and have loved it every time. So some friends want to go somewhere and we shared this place with them. They loved it and found out while we were there that he knew the owner. Wow, it's a small world. We have decided to definitely go together again.

Just left Ray's Country Smokehouse, the food was AWESOME, Ribs fall off the bone, brisket melt in your mouth, Chicken wings was OUTSTANDING, Potato Salad was to die for. I WILL BE BACK. I AM FROM NEW BERN, NC

The food was just okay and not a fan of the atmosphere; however, the customer service was perfect. Our waitress had colorful hair and was a pleasure! I don't remember her name, but she is a great worker.

Decent beer selection. Nice menu selection. The food was good. No complaints. I know BBQ is very Regional and very prejudicial, but I have had BBQ all over the world. This was good, but it wasn't great bbq. Certainly not the #4 restaurant in Gastonia.

I have been to Ray's twice, both after hiking Crowder's. I was looking for the best burger on my way home, and this place was highly rated with a bunch of reviews and comments. I am usually disappointed with commercial burgers. They are either frozen prefabs or so lean that it's like chewing leather. Both times, Ray's burger was juicy and flavorful, the homecut fries prepared in peanut oil(best I've had in the Carolinas). If someone asks me where to get a hamburger, this is where I would send them. The brisket was good, and the beer so cold I couldn't touch the neck without forming ice crystals 🤓

I had the opportunity to try this local business in Gastonia for some smokehouse! When you are in Gastonia you should pay this company a visit- Ray's Country Smokehouse Grill of South Broad Street. The homemade molasses bbq sauce is finger licking good! The Ribs were tender and nicely complimented with fried okra and fries. This company gives you the bang for your buck with their hearty entree. Let them know that Queen Helen the Realtor sent you!

May a little on the dry side, might have just been my luck. The Piedmont style sauce, not sure what they call it had a hint of alcohol in it. Barbecue slaw is a SC mustard style barbecue sauce

This has to be the best kept Gastonia secret EVER!! The people are so friendly and the food is award winning (literally) It's a down home family friendly restaurant/bar. This is a combo plate with brisket and ribs with a molasses sauce. And yes... It's about gone😂😂😂

Fun atmosphere, good food, and decent prices. I'm not big on their BBQ sauce (it's just different, not bad) but the meat is incredible. The baked potato salad is fantastic too.

I'm one of a half-dozen older guys who eat out regularly together each week at a different place. When it comes to Ray's Smokehouse, it takes you back to a time when eating out was a more of a leisurely and enjoyable affair to be shared with good friends and family. Ray's fare is excellent on all count's: Food, quantity, quality, prices, service and particularly atmosphere. Our visit there was more than just tasty and enjoyable, it was fun.

Now might be the best time to try new places because the outbreak is limiting all activity in restaurants. That being said...the burgers here are great! The flavor reminds me of an old school diner. Its well worth the title of best burger in NC. Much better than Five Guys on Franklin Blvd. But Five Guys has them beat in fries. The bake potato salad is the best Ive had & will be on every order from now on.The service was quick & polite which is all I ask in takeout..

The food was absolutely amazing. We had the brisket, ribs, pulled pork and the smoked wings and everything was tender and full of flavor. We also had an awesome servicer, she was very attentive and went above and beyond for our 1St experience there. We will definitely be back.

Flavor of the brisket and ribs was great. Smoke ring was nearly 1/4 inch into the meat, and the smoke hit with the first bite. Brisket pulled apart and ribs pulled from the bone great. However, the meat was extremely dry. Both the ribs and the brisket, although perfectly cooked initially, had the texture of meat that had been in a warmer box for hours with no moisture. I will try them again for lunch one day, and maybe catch the meat before it has time to dry out.
